Publisher’s Note: For those who have been reading about or been interested in Artificial Intelligence (and who has not?), there are thousands of articles that vacillate between the boring and the fantastic. For most of us, the noise has become deafening.

In this week’s issue, we’re sharing a transcript of perhaps the most thoughtful conversation on AI I have yet to read (or hear). The combination of world-famous sci-fi (and AI) expert David Brin talking with technical master and Googler Joseph Smarr produced a series of pronouncements, deep dives, and discoveries that I think are both special and unique.
