When the news dropped about Silicon Valley Bank being shut down by US regulators, I had just arrived in Paris for the Hello Tomorrow conference, a two-day gathering of startups, investors, and corporate partners building deep-tech applications across energy, transportation, manufacturing, food, and agriculture.
After the ChatGPT frenzy I’d left behind in the States, the focus and intensity of these companies was both refreshing and surprising. No one was talking about SVB. What they were talking about was nuclear fusion, quantum computing, and how to transition to a circular economy.
I felt like I’d dropped into Narnia. Having been to many tech conferences, I cannot imagine one in the US with this level of focus on solving hard technical challenges. Other than FiRe, of course.
